Automatic Clearing House (ACH) is both a payment tool and a method that electronically debits a customer’s bank account instead of using paper checks. Think of it as an electronic payment from one bank account to another.
A merchant initiates the transaction by submitting an ACH file containing all the bank routing and account numbers to be debited, along with the transaction amounts. These transactions can be processed over the web using the payment gateway from 1st US Merchant Services® or via telephone.
While ACH payments are not guaranteed (they must clear like a check does and may bounce), they are a useful alternative to accepting credit cards for some merchants.
